No one should spend
Valentine's Day alone

Each February, volunteers across Cary, Apex, and Morrisville hand-make floral arrangements and carry them to the doors of neighbors who might otherwise let the day pass unnoticed. Every gift we receive puts flowers on another doorstep.

Our story

Begun in one garage

MOM's Valentine for You! was founded by Marie Martin, who moved to the Cary area and noticed how many of her neighbors were living alone. What began as handmade gifts assembled in her own garage and driveway has grown into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit reaching hundreds of households every February.

When you walk up to the house with a bouquet, and they say "Who sent this to me?" — it's hard to describe the look on their face. Marie Martin, Founder

We work alongside Meals on Wheels, Transitions LifeCare, Total Life Care Center, and other community organizations to reach as many people as we can. Recipients include widows and widowers, caregivers, and anyone who might feel forgotten on a day built around company.

In 2025, Marie received the Governor's Volunteer Award for Wake County in recognition of her service and community leadership.

In memory

Remembering Michele Blackley

1964 – 2025

Michele Blackley holding two buckets of cut flowers.

When I joined the Cary Garden Club and became Ways and Means Chair, I was asked to contact Michele Blackley regarding arrangements for the club's Annual Auction and Luncheon held each November.

After meeting Michele, she and I formed a wonderful and treasured friendship. For many years, Michele was affectionately known as the “youngest oldest member” of the Cary Garden Club. She had a wonderful spirit, a generous heart, and a love of helping others.

In 2021, I asked Michele if she would sell me some plants that I could deliver to individuals I planned to remember at Valentine's. Michele loved the idea and asked if she could go with me to make the deliveries.

As we were making those deliveries, I mentioned that I had seen a story in the News & Observer about someone in Charlotte who was delivering gifts to widows in that area. Michele looked at me and said:

You can do that in this area.

Those simple words became the beginning of something much bigger.

After much discussion, Michele and I decided to give it a try for Mother's Day. That first effort was a tremendous success and showed us that many people in our community might be alone and would appreciate knowing someone was thinking of them.

Michele became a co-founder of the MOM's Wishing Widows Well program and remained my biggest supporter, advisor, and friend. She believed in the mission from the very beginning and encouraged me to keep going and continue growing the program.

I will always be grateful for Michele — not only for helping plant the seed that became MOM's Valentine for You!, but for the beautiful friendship we shared. Her kindness, encouragement, and belief in what we were doing will always be a treasured part of MOM's story.

How it works

Three simple steps

The same rhythm each season, repeated by hundreds of hands.

01

Suggest & give

Neighbors submit the names of people who may be alone, and donations cover the supplies — flowers, vases, and ribbon.

02

Volunteers create

Hundreds of volunteers gather at the Cary Senior Center to handcraft each bouquet, using flowers donated by local florists and grocers.

03

Delivered by hand

Every arrangement is carried to the door by a volunteer — a reminder that someone in the neighborhood was thinking of them.

Get involved

Three ways to help

Support comes in many forms, and all year round. Each one reaches the same doorstep.

Be a sponsor

Businesses, civic groups, and congregations underwrite flowers, vases, and supplies, or send a team to build arrangements together. We'll tailor a partnership to what you can offer.

Start a conversation

Volunteer your time

Help build arrangements at the Cary Senior Center, drive a delivery route, or spread the word in your neighborhood. No floral experience needed.

Volunteer

Make a donation

Your gift buys the flowers, vases, and ribbon. One hundred percent goes to supplies — give whatever feels right to you, any time of year.

Know someone who could use some flowers?

Anyone who could use a little brightness — a neighbor, a caregiver, someone in a nursing home, someone going through a hard season. Make a $15.00 donation to help offset the cost of the arrangements.
